Counties Power is determined to assist young people to be successful in whatever career path they choose and to achieve a happy and bright future.

Based in Franklin and the southern Counties region since 1924, Counties Power has a strong community-based philosophy and is heavily involved as a partner in many local youth, education, and team sporting endeavours. This year, it has joined First Foundation as a Scholarship Partner, giving the organisation the opportunity to support a local youth who has the aptitude, but not necessarily the means to gain a qualification, while giving back to the community.

As a Scholarship Partner, Counties Power is partnered with a scholar and will provide financial assistance towards their tertiary fees. The organisation also provides the scholar with part-time work during the four-year First Foundation Scholarship programme.

Counties Power General Manager People, Safety and Communications Tracey Kay says she first became involved with First Foundation in 2002 and has been a strong supporter ever since. “Being a partnering company is a fabulous experience, especially seeing first-hand the hugely positive impact that receiving a First Foundation Scholarship not only imparts on the student, but also their family,” Tracey says.

“We’ve named our scholarship the Bob Arvidson Memorial Scholarship in honour of one of the first trustees of the Counties Power Consumer Trust, established in 1995. Mr Arvidson was a strong community supporter and was made a Member of the British Empire (MBE) for services to the community.”

Counties Power is clear about its goals as a Scholarship Partner, with the number one aim being to provide support and guidance, along with a nurturing and empowering environment where the student gains knowledge and life experience, Tracey says. “I have found this enables the student to gain confidence, not only in themselves, but in understanding how a business works – something they can apply across many areas of their lives in the future.”

Being able to give a hand up to enable students to achieve their dreams is humbling and exciting and something Counties Power is proud to be able to play a part in, Tracey adds.
