Julie McFarland, the Year 11 Dean at Kamo
High School believes Amanda Yovich possesses the qualities desired
in a First Foundation Scholarship recipient: 'Amanda is a young
woman who will always make a positive contribution to her
community. She will always rise to a challenge. She can be relied
upon to invest maximum effort at all times.' Amanda has proven
herself an academic, having achieved NCEA Level 1 with an
Excellence endorsement in 2009. For Japanese language, Amanda
received a Gold Certificate in the Language of Perfect Vocabulary
Olympics, placing her among the top achievers in New Zealand.
Amanda received a Year 11 Dean's award and placed in the top 8
overall for Year 11. She was first in Year 11 History and Science
and was 3rd in Geography.
Amanda is recognised as a leader amongst her peers, having attended
the Kamo High School Leadership camp. She is also the Secretary of
Whanau Whanui and Chairperson of the Whanau Council. Her
involvement in numerous committees such as the Welcoming Committee,
Environmental, Academic , Students Against Drink Driving (SADD),
Yearbook, Arts Council and as a Junior Ambassador illustrates her
commitment to the wider life of her school.
Amanda is also a keen member of the Cheerleading squad, performer
and production team member in Stage Challenge. Amanda plays Soccer
and Volleyball and partook in the school Athletics, Swimming and
Cross Country events. Amanda plays hockey for the Kamo 2nd XI
Hockey team. She is also a member of the Kamo Squash club and the
Onerahi Yacht club. In May 2010, Amanda went on the Spirit of New
Zealand for a 10 day voyage.
Amanda is undecided as to what she wants to study, but is
interested in law, science, health sciences and English.
