The Principal of Wainuiomata High School had the following to
say about Brandon: 'Brandon is a capable and hard working student
who regularly produces work of high quality. He is a mature
individual who relates easily to all students and staff, making him
an effective and influential student leader.' Brandon is recognised
for his leadership capabilities, having been elected as Student
Representative on the School's Board of Trustees for two
consecutive years and being appointed to the position of Head Boy
for 2009. Brandon says this opportunity has 'given me insight into
Business Management on a larger scale.' He is also a Peer Mentor
and Mediator and is on the Student Council. He is an all-round
student, achieving NCEA Level 1 in 2007, excelling in Accounting
and Economics.
Brandon is not only a leader in the classroom, but also on the
sports field. His passion is Soccer and he captains the school A
Team as well as his Wainuiomata Club side. He is also involved in
the wider Wainuiomata community as part of 'Develop Wainuiomata' -
a project aimed at improving the Wainuiomata environment. Brandon
is a Youth Leader of the 'Y-nui' group, helping to make Youth life
better in Wainuiomata. Brandon holds a part-time weekend job at The
Warehouse in Petone, where he works hard to maintain his 'Exceeds
Expectations' rating - something he is very proud of.
The leadership opportunities Brandon has been given at school has
sparked a desire in him to pursue a career in Commercial
Management. He wants to complete his tertiary studies at Victoria
University, studying Commerce, majoring in Management and
Marketing. In doing so, Brandon will be the first in his family to
attend University.
On interviewing Brandon for their scholarship, Melissa Huggins of
New Zealand Trade and Enterprise found Brandon to be 'very keen and
proactive. He had a community spirit and seemed smart and
confident. He showed the ability to work in a team
environment.'
