Hayden speaks warmly of the way his solo mother has always
instilled in him idea that "a good education is vital in life." As
a result he has always had a passion to go to university and as a
First Foundation Scholar he will be the first in his family to get
a degree.
His Principal regarded him as an 'excellent academic' and in his
application to be a First Foundation Scholar it is apparent that he
has a real desire and willingness to learn. Hayden's strengths in
Mathematics and Accounting saw him one of 5 from Canterbury
selected to attend the New Zealand heat of the Global Young
Enterprise Challenge. Another noticeable strength of Hayden's is
his leadership ability and people skills. He notes that through
opportunities like volunteering at the YMCA he has developed skills
in relating to diverse people. Hayden has exercised his
leadership skills on the sports field as captain of his school
Cricket team. He also is a keen footballer, baseballer and
basketballer.
Hayden has both short term and long term goals for tertiary
studies. With a love for History and Commerce, he hopes to study
these subjects. He also has strong ambitions to complete
postgraduate study.
