Migrating with his family from the Philippines in 1997,
John-Carlo initially saw learning English as a barrier. Despite
this, in 2009 he won the Junior Speech competition and got the
Rotary Speaking Prize at Kelston Boys High School. This
intelligent student has a wide range of interests but excels in
History and Geography and is passionate about Hockey, Theatresports
and entrepreneurial opportunities. In 2011 John-Carlo was awarded
the Board of Trustees Scholarship and trophies for History,
Geography and Hockey. He was also selected as a student
ambassador at the Fairfax Media Business Hall of Fame.

scholarship recipient at the 2011 Awards Evening: "John-Carlo has

he arrived for his interview, the people who met John-Carlo were
impressed with his positive, bubbly personality and successful
track record. We knew from that very moment that he was the
right guy for us!"
This vivacious go-getter wants to study conjoint Commerce and Arts
degrees at The University of Auckland and then aims to work in the
Travel and Tourism industry.
