The Principal of De La Salle College highly
commends Julian Iosia for being 'a very able student and one of the
top performers of his year level. I have absolutely no hesitation
to recommending Julian for this scholarship for Julian as a man of
direction, passion and integrity deserving of every opportunity.'
Julian's academic results speak for themselves. In 2008, he
achieved an Excellence endorsement for NCEA Level 1. Julian
received the Konica Minolta Academic Scholarship.
Julian is highly involved in all aspects of cultural life at De La
Salle College, supporting all of the Pacific Island groups in
public speaking, hospitality, drama, performance, prayer and sport.
Julian has represented De La Salle College at Fono Emerging
Leaders, student delegations, interviews, leadership discussion
programmes and inter-school courses, namely the University of
Otago's 'Hands on Science' trip, the Rotary Sci-Tech experience and
the RYPEN Leadership Camp in 2009.
In 2006, Julian spent seven months living in Samoa working in a
village shop. He took the time to learn the Samoan language
fluently, and plans to use this skill in his future, creating
stronger connections between the people of Samoa and New Zealand.
Julian's other work experience is his current part-time position at
Mangere East KFC.
At the completion of NCEA Level 3, Julian plans to attend the
University of Auckland and study towards a Bachelor of Commerce
majoring in Accounting, but has not ruled out the possibility of a
career in Medicine. Julian would like a job where he can pursue his
interests in travelling - possibly working in Japan or Indonesia
for some time.
"Julian has a strong drive, is a broad thinker coupled with a
tangible desire to make a difference" -David Freeman-Greene, GM
Account & Business Development, Telecom.
