At the time of applying to become at First Foundation Scholar,
the Principal of Aotea College said "Michael comes to you with our
highest recommendation - he takes his work very seriously and is
always polite, respectful and very responsible." A standout
student, in 2004 Michael received the Massey University Vice
Chancellors Award. From early on he showed promise as a young
entrepreneur and was part of the winning team for the 2005 Lion
Nathan Business Scheme. While still at school, Michael had
ambitions to develop a career in Business.
Pat Higgins of Fliway said, in regards their scholarship selection;
"It was evident that he has accomplished so much, both academically
and personally, through hard work and dedication. He has ambition,
a plan and determination, which are major attributes for achieving
the goals he has set."
Michael says it was a highlight graduating in 2010 with a Bachelor
of Commerce and Administration from Victoria University. When
reflecting on his First Foundation experience, Michael exclaims:
"Lots of benefits!! Confidence, work experience and ethics,
guidance, financial help, self belief, and the relationships with
the First Foundation team." The relationships he built during his
Scholarship are ongoing. He continues to work at Fliway whilst
looking forward to future opportunities in business and is still in
contact with mentor Michael Hill.
