HEAD BOY 2009
The Principal of Kelston Boys' High school saw Sam as a role
model for others. At school Sam was known for carrying himself with
mana, integrity and real commitment to his culture, school and
community. Sam displayed these qualities throughout his
participation in sport, kapa haka, debating and in his role as a
Regional Korero Representative. 'Sam enjoys making a difference in
other people's lives' said his Principal. In his last year of
school, Sam was elected Head Boy. And while still at school Sam had
the goal of becoming a Maori teacher and passing on knowledge to
the next generation.
As part of awarding Sam's First Foundation scholarship, Heather
Kean from Fonterra said 'we saw in Sam the desire for a big future
and we were very impressed with his willingness to throw everything
at every opportunity.'
Sam continues to succeed academically and is currently pursuing
a career as a teacher through a Bachelor of Education at The
University of Auckland.
