Emma Henderson, the Leadership Coordinator
at Taita College cannot recommend Tommy highly enough for the
opportunity of a First Foundation Scholarship and believes Tommy
deserves the best start in his education and future. Tommy is
described as 'a warm, perceptive, mature young man with an
infectiously happy persona. His success is tempered by an
impressive sense of modesty and he is genuinely supportive of his
classmates, taking on challenges with enthusiasm and determination.
He is a role model to his peers. ' In 2009 Tommy achieved NCEA
Level 1 and is currently completing NCEA Level 2 with a run of
straight excellence credits in History.
As well as being academically capable, Tommy enjoys a number of
extracurricular activities. He is a high achiever in Physical
Education and plays for the School's Badminton and Bowls teams.
Outside of school hours he plays club softball and is a member of
Basement Youth group. Tommy is commended by his teachers for his
involvement in raising awareness of social issues in the school. He
is a member of the Students Against Drink Driving (SADD) Committee
, Vice President of the Amnesty International group and played an
instrumental part in support of Daffodil Day.
Tommy will be the first in his family to study at tertiary level.
He is still deciding which path to take but is considering Law,
Psychology and personal training as options due to his interest in
people, physical education and English
