Although he has experienced significant loss in his life, Gus has shown the resilience and dedication needed to keep focussed on his goals and make his family proud.
He has a particular aptitude for maths and physics, was first in his year for advanced maths. Gus is equally at home on the sports field and played goalie for a school hockey team and was responsible for starting a netball team for boys.
Being part of the PILOT (Pacific Island Leaders of Tomorrow) was pivotal in helping Gus develop leadership skills and he enjoyed the opportunities the programme gave him to host school assemblies and attend information days at tertiary studies. These visits enforced his goal of studying technology at a tertiary level.
