HEAD BOY 2009
Alongside school leadership positions Michael maintained a lengthy list of extra-curricular activities. Michael managed to balance, amidst other things, rugby league, cricket, mentoring, playing in a music band, choir at a national level and high scores in music theory exams. His Principal viewed him as 'a highly self-motivated and focused student who has always been a role model for other students with a real strength of character.'
Paul Gianotti at Warehouse Stationery had the following to say about selecting Michael: "I was instantly drawn to him when I read his application where he detailed why he wanted to make a difference to his local community. This was further emphasised when I met with him…a young man that is determined to succeed in life, no matter what."
It has been Michael's goal to complete tertiary study and then return to his community in South Auckland with life skills and qualifications to make a positive difference. Michael is currently studying Theology at The University of Auckland but has suspended this in 2014 to take on the National Co-ordinator of Children, Young People and Families Ministry for the Methodist Church of NZ.
