Noella Niyonzima

Noella was eight when she arrived in New Zealand from Malawi, where her parents had moved to after leaving their home in Rwanda. She is now an active participant in a Rwandan dance group.

At school she was first in Economics and second in English and Geography. Noella is a 2016 Prefect and was a peer mentor, a coordinator for the World Vision 40 hour famine and a member of the school's football team.

Noella hopes to study law at University and was part of the Russell McVeagh mentoring programme.  She also takes part in regular events with Change Makers - for people arriving in New Zealand with a refugee background.

"She is a disciplined and motivated student who sets high goals for academic success and works diligently toward achieving these," said Philp Carew from NaeNae College.
