Nura was born in Indonesia and has Iraqi and Indonesian heritage. Life in Indonesia was very challenging for the family. Nura’s parents decided to make the bold move to immigrate to NZ as refugees in the hope that they could secure a better future for their children. They left everything they knew - the language, the culture, their own families - to come to New Zealand.
Nura has three siblings. They have always been told to work hard to achieve and hard work is something that comes naturally. Nura excelled at Zayed College for Girls in academic achievement and school life. She shares her culture and Islamic faith readily and loves to learn about her new country and the many cultures in NZ. She will be the first in her family to go to university.
