As a sportsman and leader, Pesamino is an outstanding role model. Born in Samoa, Pesamino has had a challenging upbringing. Despite the challenges he showed immense gratitude to his grandparents, who raised him from a young age, and seems determined to seek a future career that will help him to support his own family. Melanie Cash from Fonterra Cooperative Group announced at the 2011 Auckland Awards that "Pesamino has been awarded this scholarship because he has shown real potential to be a leader and role model within his community. Pesamino is a reflective and articulate young man, with strong core values."
At school he set himself high academic goals and worked to achieve them. He was proud of passing NCEA level 1, 2 and 3 and gaining the Excellence Awards for English and Religious Education at his school's end of year Academic Prize giving. On top of his academic timetable, Pesamino played club rugby league and has also represented the Counties Manukau Rugby League Team in the Regional Competition in 2012. In 2013 he began his second year of work experience with Fonterra Cooperative and said, "it is an awesome experience where I'm able to learn corporate processes and skills which I can then apply in my future career".
Pesamino's passion for Design, strength in Physics and Chemistry and enthusiasm for Computing support his desire to become a Software Engineer. He will complete his Engineering degree through The Auckland University at the end of 2017 and acknowledges this tertiary study as a big stepping stone to making his dreams a reality, for him and his family.
