Turuhira is a 2015 Prefect for Auckland Girls' Grammar School's Maori language Nest, Nga Tumanako o Kahurangi, Waka Ama Captain and Kapa Haka Leader.

Turuhira is involved in the Kapa Haka group, performing front row in the competitive group and was in the school Waka Ama Nationals in 2013 and 2014 with 1 Gold and 3 Silvers, and at Club level Waka Ama Nationals in 2014 with 2 Golds and 1 Silver. Turuhira has also completed her Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award.  She has also played Netball as an Auckland Rep and placed 3rd in Maori Speech competition in 2014. 

She plans to attend the University of Auckland to study Commerce with International Business and Arts majoring in Maori Studies that can then be used to support her community.
