The Associate Principal of James Cook High described Uani as self-motivated and enthusiastic about learning. Throughout his time at school, Uani's talents shone in business studies and he stood out as a leader amongst his peers. His leadership qualities expanded to the sports field, where Uani captained the Counties Manukau Under 20's basketball team for two years running, as well as coaching the Under 12's.

When Uani was awarded a First Foundation Scholarship with Fliway, Nigel Fisher, National Transport Manager at the time said "We chose Uani because he showed a lot of enthusiasm for achieving his goals in life. He is dedicated to bettering himself and is prepared to put in the hard work to get there."

Uani is currently working as a Business Manager at Pace Couriers and his study at AUT is ongoing where he is working towards completing a Bachelor of Business. As official logistics partners for the 2011 Rugby World Cup, Pace was engaged Uani as a Corporate Host for their top 50 corporate executives from all over the world while they are in New Zealand for the Cup.
